PT Solusi Sinergi Digital Tbk (WIFI) or Surge won the 1.4 GHz spectrum for Regional I, which covers Java, Papua, and Maluku at a price of Rp403.76 billion. The company plans to collaborate with PT Tower Bersama Infrastructure Tbk (TBIG) and PT Centratama Telekomunikasi Indonesia Tbk (CENT) to develop Broadband Wireless Access (BWA) using the 1.4 GHz spectrum.

This frequency supports Fixed Wireless Access (FWA), which will enable WIFI to offer faster internet speeds at a more affordable price and a broader coverage throughout Indonesia. This frequency is expected to expand access to high-speed internet up to 100 Mbps, in line with the government’s efforts to provide inclusive digital services.

WIFI will leverage over 50,000 towers from TBIG and CENT to accelerate expansion. Considering TBIG and CENT’s well-developed nationwide tower infrastructure across Indonesia, WIFI plans to utilize these existing resources to achieve more cost-efficient transmission of signals.

According to Shannedy, Director of WIFI, the ready-to-use tower portfolio will support the deployment of FWA services in regions with the potential to reach more than 45 million households. Aside from the support of existing infrastructure, WIFI also anticipates alternative collaborations with Mitratel and Protelindo Group if additional capacity is needed.

As a result, WIFI will be able to accelerate the development of FWA services without having to build new towers. Furthermore, WIFI aims to offer a 100 Mbps FWA-based home internet package for Rp100,000 per month, targeting rural area households with limited accessibility to fixed broadband services.

WIFI is targeting to reach 2.5 million Home Passes and 1.5 million Home Connects with a 60% take-up rate, an 11.3% and an 8.2% increase, respectively. Starting in 2026, they aim to reach 5 million Home Connect users per year.

The company also projects a 57% FWA and 10% Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) growth between 2023 and 2030. Regional I covers 61% of Indonesia’s 73.9 million households, equivalent to 45 million potential users.

To accelerate the deployment, WIFI is collaborating with a number of global partners such as Nokia, Huawei, Orex SAI, Baicells, Fiberhome, and chipset manufacturer Qualcomm. The launch of the 1.4 GHz FWA network is scheduled to begin in November or later this year.
