Microsoft and NVIDIA are set to invest a combined US$15 billion into Anthropic, as Anthropic seeks to establish ties with two of OpenAI’s partners. The investment will be incorporated into Anthropic’s agreement to purchase US$30 billion in Microsoft’s cloud computing capacity from Microsoft’s Azure and implement the latest versions of NVIDIA’s chip technology.

Microsoft and Anthropic will continue to be mutual customers, with Microsoft using Anthropic’s models while Anthropic utilizes Microsoft’s infrastructure, and the companies will pursue a joint market approach.

The investments mark a notable realignment across the generative AI industry, strengthening long-term ties between tech companies and frontier-model developers, reinforcing the partnerships that define the AI sector’s current trajectory.

Microsoft and Anthropic have announced a major expansion of their strategic partnership, marked by Anthropic’s commitment to purchase up to US$30 billion in Azure compute capacity. According to Microsoft Chief Executive Satya Nadella, the agreement positions the two companies as increasingly central to each other’s operations.

Under the arrangement, Microsoft’s data centers will deploy Nvidia’s latest AI accelerators, providing the high-performance computing required for Anthropic’s advanced model. The structure creates a circular framework in which Anthropic receives substantial capital from both companies and commits significant long-term workloads to Microsoft’s cloud.

As a result, Anthropic becomes one of Azure's major customers, strengthening Microsoft’s influence in the rapidly growing AI computing market.

The investment by Microsoft and NVIDIA into Anthropic significantly broadens the AI startup’s ecosystem beyond its existing collaborations with Amazon and Google. The deals collectively increase Anthropic’s presence across multiple cloud platforms, as reflected in its multibillion-dollar compute commitments to Microsoft Azure, Google’s provision of up to one million AI chips, and Amazon’s continued role as its primary cloud provider.

These contracts illustrate the broader industry trend in which major cloud and chip providers compete to secure long-term AI compute demand amid the rapid expansion of generative-AI workloads. Thus, long-term compute contracts have become a core strategic lever in the AI infrastructure landscape.

At the same time, Amazon remains a key pillar of Anthropic’s ecosystem, reinforcing its position as Anthropic’s primary cloud provider despite new strategic alliances.
