Microsoft Signs Multibillion-Dollar Deal to Expand Mistral's AI Infrastructure.

Microsoft and Mistral announced a major expansion of the strategic partnership through a multibillion-dollar agreement focused on expanding AI infrastructure in Europe.

Under the agreement, Microsoft intends to leverage Mistral's expanded Europe-based GPU infrastructure, drawing on thousands of the latest NVIDIA Vera Rubin GPUs to increase capacity for AI development and support the delivery of Microsoft's cloud. 

Microsoft President Brad Smith confirmed the agreement requires no additional equity investment in Mistral, positioning the deal as an infrastructure and distribution arrangement rather than a financial stake acquisition. The partnership also aligns with Microsoft's European Digital Commitments, announced in 2025, and supports the company's long-term pledge to expand data center capacity across the European Union.

A central component of the expanded partnership is the strategy collaboration of Mistral's AI models across Microsoft's enterprise product ecosystem.

Mistral Medium 3.5 and OCR 4 are now available in Microsoft Foundry, while Mistral Medium 3.5 has also been integrated into Microsoft Copilot Studio, enabling developers and enterprises to build and deploy AI applications with cost-efficient scaling. 

Mistral CEO Arthur Mensch noted that the majority of Mistral's existing customers already work with Microsoft, highlighting the natural depth of this integration. Furthermore, the agreement is designed to provide organizations with greater flexibility in the deployment and management of frontier AI models. particularly in regions with strict data residency and sovereignty requirements, making the partnership especially relevant for regulated industries across Europe and beyond.

Microsoft President Brad Smith stated that by bringing Mistral's frontier European models into the sovereign cloud portfolio and enabling deployment across public cloud, cloud-connected, and fully disconnected environments, Microsoft remains committed to the European Digital Commitments and providing customers with a secure and reliable foundation for AI implementation on their own terms.

Mistral's leadership echoed this vision, as Arthur Mensch affirmed that the partnership with Microsoft allows Mistral's models to reach enterprises and public institutions at global scale, delivered through a platform trusted for the most demanding and regulated workloads. 

The companies are also strengthening collaboration through a joint go-to-market strategy. strategy and will pursue enterprise opportunities together across Europe and globally, including funding proof-of-concept projects, offering Azure credits, and conducting workshops to accelerate customer AI adoption.
